Assam Police Collects Fine Worth Rs 4 Crore From Traffic Violators In December

Guwahati: The Assam Police has collected a huge amount of Rs 4 crore from people violating traffic rules in the month of December 2021.

Commissioner of Guwahati police Harmeet Singh informed that until the month of November 2021, the police officials have collected fines of Rupees 2.5 crore every month.

''In the present month of December, the police have successfully collected Rupees 4 crore as a penalty,'' he added.

The commissioner further said that as many as 22,000 people including motorists and drivers were penalized in just 15 to 20 days this month for traffic violations mainly for riding without a helmet despite making helmet-wearing compulsory for riders as well as pillion riders.

In case of drink and drive, the Guwahati police have intercepted a total of 600 people for driving while consuming alcohol. As per action against traffic rules violations, the driving licenses of all of them were suspended and a penalty of Rupees 10,000 was also imposed.

In view of ensuring that no accidents take place during this festive season and at the time of the massive celebration of New Year, the traffic police in the state will be keeping strict vigilance over traffic violations. The police have initiated to conduct regular checking so that they can track down people driving in a drunken state.

The city police informed that a strategic plan has been initiated by their team to avoid accidents in Guwahati during New Year.

Earlier, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma ordered Assam police to keep strict watch over a drink and drive so that people do not risk their lives in the name of enjoyment during this New Year.

Till the month of August 2021, the Assam Police collected around Rupees 14 crore as penalty in Guwahati city for various reasons of traffic violations that include rash driving, parking at no-parking areas, riding without helmets, drinking and driving and others.
