Assam Police commando Girish Dutta stabbed to death at Makum by an unidentified gang

DIGBOI: In a shocking incident that occurred here at Makum in Tinsukia district, a young Assam Police commando (trainer), Girish Dutta was hacked to death by an unidentified gang on Sunday night near Makum railway crossing close to Makum 2nd Battalion camp.

According to sources, deceased Dutta, a resident of Ashok Nagar of the Battalion area, was returning home late night after attending a cultural programme at Tingrai. Family sources said that on the way back home from Assam Moran Sabha at Tingrai, Dutta engaged in a heated debate with a group of people on certain issues and later left the place. The group still followed him till his residence after which he was dragged out of his house and hacked to death on the road in front of his house. “He was stabbed by the gang repeatedly while his father was pleading to them for his son’s life,” said a close relative of the deceased. Meanwhile, the locals of Makum area resorted to road blockade on Monday morning on NH-38 demanding the police to immediately arrest the culprits. A case was registered at Makum Police Station and investigation was on with no arrest till the filing of this report.
