Assam: Police Constable Shoots Wife With Service Revolver In Dibrugarh

GUWAHATI: In a shocking incident in the Dibrugarh district of Assam, a police constable allegedly shot dead his wife. The cop used his service pistol to shoot his wife to death.

The incident took place on Sunday 13 March as informed by sources.

The deceased woman has been identified as Jayshree Chetia.

The cop who shot his wife has been identified as Biki Chetia is a resident of Assam's Sivasagar deployed in Dibrugarh police.

According to reports, Jayshree sustained severe injuries after her husband brutally attacked her with his revolver.

Later she was admitted to AMCH (Assam Medical College and Hospital) where she was declared dead by doctors.

The family members of the duo claim that the incident took place at midnight hours on Sunday.

The Dibrugarh police arrested the accused Biki Chetia following the murder case of his wife and his alleged involvement.

Meanwhile, a detailed investigation over the incident has been initiated by the police officials. The inquiry over the matter is ongoing at present.

However, it is not yet clear what circumstances led to the horrific incident.

It may be mentioned that the service revolver meant actually for protection as a personal weapon has now become the reason for many deaths.

This weapon which is legally provided by the government to law enforcement officers and regular military personnel are often misused by them in committing serious crimes.

Police officers in different parts of the country have been using the service revolver for personal benefit and other purposes apart from their duty.

Earlier in a similar incident in North Guwahati of Assam, a police constable shot dead his wife with his service pistol issued by authorities. As the police asked the accused cop to surrender he then killed himself after killing his wife and in-laws.
