GUWAHATI: In a recent incident in Bilasipara, Dhubri, Assam, a suspected dacoit named Safikul Islam found himself injured as a result of police firing when he attempted to flee from law enforcement authorities. Safikul Islam had been accused of being part of a notorious duo, along with his partner Matiur Rahman, who had allegedly been involved in a series of robberies in Bilasipara over the past few days. Both suspects had been on the Assam Police's wanted list due to their alleged criminal activities in the region.

The arrest of Safikul Islam and Matiur Rahman took place on a Tuesday at an undisclosed location, following specific information received by the police. After their apprehension, the suspects were being transported to the police station for further legal proceedings when an unexpected turn of events occurred. Safikul Islam, one of the accused, attempted to make a daring escape from police custody, despite repeated warnings to halt his flight.

Facing a situation with no viable alternative, the police resorted to controlled gunfire as a last measure to prevent Safikul from escaping. The gunfire struck Safikul, resulting in an injury to his leg. Subsequently, he was recaptured by the police and promptly transferred to a hospital for medical attention and treatment of his injury.

The law enforcement authorities have now launched an investigation into all the criminal activities in which the two suspects, Safikul Islam and Matiur Rahman, may have been involved. This inquiry is aimed at uncovering the extent of their alleged involvement in criminal activities, including the recent spate of robberies in Bilasipara.

Additionally, the police managed to recover incriminating evidence from the apprehended suspects. Among the items retrieved were a 7.62 mm firearm and a scooter, which are likely to be key pieces of evidence in the ongoing investigation. The recovery of these items further strengthens the case against Safikul Islam and Matiur Rahman and may shed light on their alleged criminal operations.

The incident in Bilasipara, Assam, involving the shooting of a suspected dacoit attempting to escape from police custody highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to curb criminal activities in the region. The case serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by the police in maintaining law and order, as well as the continued commitment to bringing alleged criminals to justice in Assam.
