GUWAHATI: In a major initiative by the Assam Police, an online process for downloading the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) reports has been introduced on March 30.

This new digital system of downloading the FSL reports has been developed by Assam CID with the objective to speed up investigations.

The state police have reached another milestone on Tuesday 29 March by inaugurating the first-ever online FSL system in India.

Notably, Assam is the first state of the country to develop such feature of downloading FSL reports online which will be beneficial for all the districts and Guwahati City Commissionerate.

This eFSL downloading system will ensure timely receipt of the reports which ultimately results in quick completion of the inquiry of any case.

Earlier when the whole country followed the system of reports submitting physically, officials have faced issues by losing important time in between but this will not happen anymore in Assam after the inauguration of the eFSL reports downloading system.

In many cases accused used to go free for various reasons like charge sheet delay and absence of FSL report but now eFSL will lead to a quick collection of reports and prevent such problems.

In the eFSL system, the FSL experts can immediately upload the case reports in FSL module after completion of analysis by selecting the concerned city or district commissioner in the dropdown menu.

After uploading the report in the online FSL module, it will be visible on the dashboard of that particular district or city commissionerate.

Then the FSL report will be made available to download by a nodal officer of the rank of Additional Superintendent of Police who has been assigned with ICJS (Interoperable Criminal Justice System) ID.

In addition, a three-layered OTP (One-Time Password) authentication has been enabled to ensure about data integrity and confidentiality.

The concerned police nodal officer will get a system-generated OTP on his CUG (Closed User group) mobile phone. The officer will also receive the same OTP on his official email ID.
