Assam Police Nabs Former Cop, Recovers Fake Currency

GUWAHATI: On Monday morning, the Assam Police nabbed a retired police official in Nagaon and recovered fake Indian currency notes (FICN) from his possession. The accused cop has been identified as Dhing’s Abdul Ali, who was earlier employed as a constable at 16 Assam Police Battalion, before his retirement.

Meanwhile, an investigation has been initiated by the police into the matter.

Earlier, Guwahati city police apprehended an individual in possession of a large amount of fake currency notes in Khanapara area. The FICN amounting to Rs 2, 93,000 was seized from his possession, according to sources.

Earlier, on Feb 8, Nagaon Police in Assam arrested two people along with Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN), officials informed.

Acting on initial information, police arrested the two in an operation conducted at Dhing Gate in the Nagaon district of Assam.

Police said that they had received specific inputs of a fake currency printing den at the said location, based on which the operation was carried out.

During the operation two culprits were caught red handed. Official sources identified the two accused as Sharafat Ali and Noor Hussain, residents of Juria. Moreover, fake notes amounting to Rs 33,52,500 were seized by the police.

The miscreants had planned to release the notes in the market and bring them into circulation. However, their plans were foiled when the police conducted the operation based on a tip-off, officials added.

Meanwhile, apart from the fake currency notes, police also seized a vehicle from the possession of the two culprits. The car had Arunachal Pradesh registration numbers leading to speculation of an interstate racket in fake notes.

In a similar incident, Nagaon Police on January 15 arrested three persons in connection with their alleged involvement in dealing with fake Indian currency notes.

The incident took place in the Horagaon area of the district.

Police said that based on specific information, a team from the Kampur Police Station launched a search operation and apprehended the three persons from Horagaon in Nagaon. Police said that they have also recovered 12 pieces of fake Indian currency notes (FICN) of Rs 500 denomination and seized one bundle of A4-sized paper and one FICN printing machine from their possession.
