Assam Police Personnel Deployed on Mizoram Border to Get Additional Salary of 1 Month

Assam Government will give Rs 50 lakh as compensation to the families of martyrs, and one person from the family will get job.

GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday through a presser in Silchar announced that all Assam Police personnel deployed on the Mizoram border, shall get an additional salary of a month.

Other key announcements made by the Assam Chief Minister are:

1. Assam Government will give Rs 50 lakh as compensation to the families of martyrs, and one person from the family will get a job.

2. All injured will get Rs 1 lakh.

3. Assam Govt will raise 3 commando battalions for Karimganj, Cachar, and Hailakandi; 3000 personnel will be recruited.

4. Shall file a suit in the Supreme Court seeking intervention to ensure that not an inch of reserve forest area is encroached upon.

It is to be mentioned that Mizoram police had opened fire on Assam officials and civilians leading to the death of 5 Assam Police personnel and one civilian and leaving 50 injured on Monday.

Earlier today, the mortal remains of the 5 Assam Police personnel were brought for final tributes.

The personnel was killed in a firing incident unleashed by Mizoram Police who used automatic weapons and LMGs to fire at the Assam Police personnel on Monday. Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma paid his last tributes to the 5 martyrs.

The Assam Police personnel who were killed in the firing are SI Swapan Kr. Roy, Constable Liton Suklabaidya, Constable M.H. Barbhuyia, Constable N Hussain, and Constable S Barbhuiya.
