Nagaon: The Assam Police on Tuesday seized two trucks laden with 75 cattle heads and also apprehended two persons in the state's Nagaon district.
Based on specific information, the Nagaon police intercepted a truck on National Highway (NH) 37 and recovered 75 cattle heads from the truck.
The two arrested smugglers named Nurul Hussain and Wahidul Islam were illegally transporting cattle from Bokakhat to Nagaon.
"Today, SI Jyoti Boro, I/C, Bagori PP, and staff apprehend two cattle smugglers for illegally transporting cattle from Bokakhat to Nagaon and recovered 75 cattle heads. In this connection two trucks bearing Reg. No. AS25 EC1383 and AS02 AC6662 have been seized," Nagaon police tweeted.
In this regard, a case has been registered under relevant sections against the apprehended persons and further investigation is underway.
On August 21, Jorabat Police too seized a 14-wheeler truck (AS11AC4087) carrying 50 cattle today.
According to police sources, one Rafiqul Islam of Moirabari was trying to smuggle 50 cattle from Nagaon to Byrnihat. The police arrested Rafiqul.
The police found five of the cattle dead and six injured.
On August 11, Based on the information, the Demow and Nitaipukhuri Police conducted a search operation in Rupahibam near Demow Nitaipukhuri on Monday night and recovered a truck (AS 09 AC 1183) that was loaded with stolen cattle.
Though the police recovered the 24 cattle from the truck, the cattle smugglers managed to flee from the spot.
The Demow Police also recovered a TVS Apache motorcycle (AS 04 Y 4318) and a Splendour motorcycle (AS 04 AA 3074). According to sources, a teacher is allegedly involved in this cattle smuggling trade.
The two motorcycle owners have been identified as Ghana Murari and Krishna Kanta Mili. Ghana Murari, who is absconding, is an Assistant Teacher at Nabil Mazdoor Primary School. The Demow Police seized the truck and motorcycles. The cattle were sent to the Gosala situated at Nazira and a case has been registered.
