Assam Police Seizes Five Cow-Laden Vehicles

The five vehicles were caught at a police naka checking as they were trying to transport a total of 32 cows in them

BIHALI: Bihali Police was able to apprehend a total of five vehicles laden with several cows. The team was also able to apprehend 8 suspected miscreants in relation to the incident and 32 cows were rescued.

The incident took place in the Buroighat locality which comes under the Bihali Police Station at around 8 AM. The vehicles were caught at a police naka checking as they were trying to transport a total of 32 cows in five vehicles. One of the cows was reportedly found to be dead out of them. According to reports, the cows were being transported from Jonal to Baghmari when they were stopped in Bihali. Bolero pickup trucks were used in transporting the cows. The registration numbers of four of the vehicles used are AS O7 BC 4311, AS 22 C 9361, AS 07 BC 7020 and AS 22 C 9042. One vehicle did not have registration plates on it

It is important to note that in the past few days, more than 200 cows have been rescued in the Bihali region along with the seizure of vehicles transporting them. The number of such incidents has grown manifold in the current time and even after the seizure of several vehicles and the arrest of such people.

Meanwhile, the Assam Police could thwart a major cattle smuggling bid in Sonapur under Kamrup (M) district on Monday. Following a tip, the oil tanker with the registration number AS 05 C1655 was intercepted, from where 40 cattle were rescued. In connection with this, two smugglers, identified as Gulzar Hussain and Faizul Ali, were arrested. As per sources, apparently, by bolting open the driver’s chamber of the truck, the cattle were jammed inside. According to sources, the cattle were being smuggled from Dhemaji to Meghalaya.
