According to reports, a 12-wheeler truck bearing the registration number TR 01 AS 1811 coming from Agartala was checked and then released as empty at the Tripura Churaibari Police Gate on the Tripura border by a broker named Tempu Roy.

However, the truck after entering the Assam border was intercepted by the Assam Churaibari police for a routine search and a total of 401 kg of ganja in 66 packets was recovered from the hidden cabin of the truck. The seized consignment is estimated to be worth Rs 40 lakh in the black market.

Apart from the truck driver, a notorious drug mafia named Sujit Nath of Tripura’s Churaibari, who is believed to be the main owner of the consignment, was also arrested by the police after the accused followed the truck to the Assam Border in an attempt to smuggle the ganja into Assam.

The police team arrested a total of three people including the driver, and the drug mafia. The arrested are Sujit Nath, Mintu Chowdhury and Pradeep Biswas.

Tripura Police had previously apprehended an individual and seized a significant cache of illicit substances, with an estimated street value of Rs 5 lakh. The operation unfolded near the Charipara area, strategically located along the Indo-Bangladesh border on the outskirts of Agartala city. Superintendent of Police for the West District, Kiran Kumar, provided details on the operation, revealing that approximately 62 grams of heroin and a substantial haul of 900 Yaba tablets were confiscated during the operation.
