GUWAHATI: The Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police successfully apprehended a habitual drug peddler during a raid in Guwahati. The operation, executed on a specific tip-off, unfolded at Beltola Bazar under the jurisdiction of Basistha Police Station in Guwahati at approximately 9 pm.

The individual was identified as Deyarul Hoque, a resident of Dakhingaon, Kahilipara in Guwahati, originally hailing from Barhad village under Hathauri Police Station in the Muzaffarpur district of Bihar. Hoque was intercepted while driving his Renault Kwid vehicle with registration AS 03 T 0423.

The raid proved fruitful as officials seized a substantial quantity of suspected heroin from Hoque's possession. A total of 16.9 grams of the illicit substance was discovered, neatly packaged in 13 vials. This confiscation adds another success to the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies in curbing the illegal drug trade.

In addition to the heroin seizure, authorities also uncovered and confiscated two mobile phones, suggesting potential connections or networks associated with illicit activities. Further, a sum of Rs 5,750 in cash was recovered, indicating financial involvement in the narcotics trade. Hoque's vehicle was also seized as part of the operation.

Officials emphasized that the success of the raid was attributed to specific and actionable intelligence received prior to the operation. The STF's ability to act swiftly and decisively based on credible information underscores the importance of community cooperation and intelligence-sharing in the fight against drug-related crimes.

The accused, Deyarul Hoque, now faces legal consequences for his alleged involvement in drug peddling. The authorities are expected to conduct a thorough investigation into his activities, connections, and the origin of the seized narcotics. The disclosure of his residence in Guwahati and his native village in Bihar provides a backdrop for understanding potential interstate implications of the illegal drug trade. The seizure of a significant quantity of heroin, along with related assets, not only disrupts the immediate illegal activities but also contributes to the broader goal of dismantling drug networks and ensuring the safety and well-being of communities.
