Guwahati: Ahead of the Assam Assembly elections 2021, senior leaders of Aanchalik Gana Morcha, Manjit Mahanta and Lachit Bordoloi visited Raijor Dol president Akhil Gogoi at Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on Friday (February 5) to discuss possibilities of Raijor Dal joining the 'Mahajot' or the grand alliance which was recently formed by Congress-AIUDF- Aanchalik Gana Morcha and Left parties to give a tough fight to BJP.
After an hour-long meeting with Akhil Gogoi, Aanchalik Gan Marcha leader Manjit Mahanta said that they did not get a positive response from the KMSS leader who has been in jail since December 2019.
"We called upon Raijor Dal to join our grand alliance but we are yet to get a green signal from Akhil Gogoi. We have been extending our invitation for Raijor Dal to join the alliance for a long time. Today we had a formal meeting face-to-face. One thing we have agreed on is that we have to together fight BJP. We regret that Gogoi has been held for so long undemocratically, on false charges," Mahanta said.
Lachit Bordoloi said, "We always invited Raijor Dol and Asom Jatiya Parishad to unite with us to overthrow communal BJP. We have to work together. We respect Gogoi and his party's views and stand but we believe that we have to unite, stand together and fight together. The public too has been hinting that we have to come together to fight BJP in the upcoming elections. Though we did not get a positive response, we are hopeful."
As days for the state elections is closing in, political alliances, launch of new political parties is taking place almost every other day.
