Assam: Potential Attack Foiled, Huge Quantity of Explosives Recovered

Security forces were able to capture a huge amount of explosives and take suspected ULFA cadres into custody during the operation.

TINSUKIA: In a significant operation ahead of Independence Day, the police and Indian Army averted a potential major incident by discovering a substantial quantity of explosives in Central Mamarani village under the jurisdiction of Digboi police station in Tinsukia district. The timely intervention of the joint forces is being hailed as a major success in foiling a possible attack.

The explosives, comprising 8 kg of PEK, 33 detonators, 1 power pack, and 6 batteries, were found concealed in Central Mamarani village, based on vital information received by the police authorities. Acting swiftly on the intelligence, a joint team of the Indian Army and police forces managed to locate and recover the hazardous materials.

The operation led to the arrest of suspected United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) linked individuals. Juman Bora from Jorhat was taken into custody as a person of interest, along with Tutu Bora and Sashankar Rajkhowa from Kordaiguri. The arrests came after thorough interrogation and investigation.

During the interrogation, Tutu Bora revealed that the explosive material had been hidden near Hemanta Bora's residence. Hemanta Bora, the son of Jitu Bora from Central Mamarani village, came under suspicion, prompting the joint team of police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and the Indian Army to conduct a search in the area.

The operation proved successful as a significant quantity of explosive material was discovered buried in the backyard of Hemanta Bora's house. Juman Bora was brought to Digboi police station for intensive interrogation, with the authorities working diligently to gather crucial information related to the case. The recovery of such a large amount of explosives has raised concerns about potential acts of violence or terror attempts, particularly in light of the approaching Independence Day celebrations. The joint efforts of the police and Indian Army have demonstrated the effectiveness of timely intelligence and cooperation in ensuring public safety. The recovery of this significant cache of explosives highlights the importance of ongoing vigilance and collaborative efforts in maintaining security and protecting citizens from potential threats.
