TANGLA: In a bid to preserve the cultural heritage of the Adivasi community, thereby promoting integrity and a sense of brotherhood among different communities of the region, the Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha (ACMS) Mangaldoi branch, in association with the All Adivasi Students’ Association of Assam (AASAA), the Assam Tea Tribes Students’ Association (ATTSA) Udalguri chapter and Assam Chah Karmachari Sangha (ACKS) Mangaldoi branch, will host a district-level Karam Utsav with a two-day colourful cultural programme at Dimakuchi TE playground in Dimakuchi of the Udalguri district on September 23 and 24.
A strong reception committee for the grand celebration has already swung into action with former Rajya Sabha MP Santiuse Kujur as president ; Paul Toppo as vice-president and Babul Paik as secretary. The first day’s event will witness hoisting of organizational flags; homage to the martyrs; plantation of saplings, extra-curricular activities among children; felicitation of meritorious students followed by rituals of Karam Utsav in the evening
On the second day, a marathon will be held in the memory of Justin Lakra, followed by a cultural rally which will be inaugurated by Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) president Hagrama Mohilary. This will be followed by an open session which will be graced as chief guest by BTC CEM Pramod Boro and inaugurated by Assam Legislative Assembly Speaker and Paneri MLA, Biswajit Daimari. It will be attended by ministers Jayanta Mallabaruah and Sanjay Kishan; Mangaldoi Lok Sabha MP Dilip Saikia, among others.
