BISWANATH: The public of the Biswanath region of the state has made allegations of widespread corruption in terms of the construction of roads and bridges in the region along with the necessary officials who have to oversee the quality of work done by them. Meanwhile, the elected representatives have turned a complete blind eye towards the conditions of these basic amenities and ignored the complaints of the local people regarding the same.

They alleged that the problems took place in the construction of the road connecting Japoriguri Silamari and Guhalibhanga localities, including a bridge.

This road was sanctioned under the Prime Minister's Gram Sarak Yojna in 2020. But problems started showing up even before the completion of 3 months after the inauguration of the road. The top layer started to peel off gradually leading to the creation of massive potholes at several places.

Local people also alleged that the contractors had used low-quality materials in the construction of the road and this had led to the damages showing up in such a short span of time.

It can be noted that the bridge was constructed with an expenditure of Rs 2 Cr 40 Lakh but within 3 months and one heavy shower removed the blacktopping on the bridge causing accidents on a daily basis.

Meanwhile, the concerned authorities have failed to take notice of the dangerous situation that has emerged because of the pathetic road conditions.

The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption successfully apprehended a Lat Mandal, Dulal Chandra Baniya, in Assam's Lakhimpur district. This incident took place recently when Baniya, posted at the Narayanpur Revenue Circle, was caught red-handed accepting demanded money. The allegations against him revolved around a complaint regarding mutation works.

The operation was meticulously executed after a complaint was lodged, implicating Baniya in corrupt activities. The anti-corruption cell wasted no time and swiftly moved to apprehend the accused at his residence in Dhalpur, where he had accepted a bribe from the complainant in exchange for expediting mutation paperwork.
