Assam: Public Alleges Corruption in the Distribution of Power Tillers

HATSINGIMARI: Some local people of the South Salmara Mankachar District of the state have raised concerns regarding alleged corruption in the agriculture department. They have also filed a complaint regarding the same with the local police.

The people alleged that the Agriculture Department employee Rijaul Islam had misappropriated the resources procured using public funds. He had allegedly misappropriated power tillers used for the agricultural processes. The public registered a complaint regarding the same incident at the Sukchar police station.

It can be noted that he allegedly used fake documents to sell government-subsidised materials including fertilisers, seeds, pesticides weedicides and even tractors and power tillers in the black market. Some local people had written to the District Commissioner regarding this incident against the agriculture extension officer of the Hazirhat agriculture circle, Rijaul Islam.

The public has demanded that proper and exemplary punishment be given to those involved in such activities.

In another recent development in Bajali district, a government employee has been arrested on charges of corruption. The individual in question, identified as Choukat Ali, held the position of Junior Assistant at the Sarupeta Revenue Circle office. The arrest was made after he was allegedly caught red-handed accepting a bribe. The incident revolves around the unlawful solicitation of funds for expediting the processing of land sale permission. Choukat Ali's actions came under scrutiny, prompting the intervention of the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption in Assam. This anti-corruption unit took swift action and apprehended the accused employee in the office of the Circle Officer at Sarupeta Revenue Circle within the Bajali district.

The arrest of Choukat Ali serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and the need for robust anti-corruption measures. The Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption in Assam has demonstrated its commitment to upholding ethical standards and rooting out corruption within the government ranks.
