GUWAHATI: The creation of a union territory of Kamatapur state, which would include portions of North Bengal and Assam, is strongly opposed by the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council. The council is urging the government to reject Kamatapur's aspirations and has warned to demonstrate if those requests for the establishment of a Kamatapur state are granted.
Notably, the Koch-Rajbongshi National Convention (KRNC) is insisting that the planned Kamatapur state must include the entire Goalpara distributed.
The All Rabha Students' Union (ARSU) has earlier issued a strong appeal to the Assam Government to take prompt action to resolve the issues faced by the Rabha people, one of the State's indigenous populations. Otherwise, the ARSU will be forced to follow the agitational road.
The Rabha community supports the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led alliance administration in the State, according to ARSU President Nripen Khanda. The Assam Government has consistently verbally committed to taking action to safeguard and advance the Rabha community. In actuality, though, no such actions have been done as of yet. We have been compelled to consider that possibly the administration is not sincere about resolving neighbourhood issues.
The Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council must be granted Sixth Schedule status and be expelled from the Union Territory of Kamatapur, according to the Rabha Community of Dudhnoi, which is publicly criticising the government.
The student body alleged that they would be forced to start a protest movement against the government if the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council was included in the Union Territory of Kamatapur. They even threatened to respond appropriately to the BJP in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
The Koch-Rajbongshi leader Ananta Rai's assertions that the union territory of Kamatapur state would soon be founded and that he is in contact with Union Home Minister Amit Shah have long been the subject of criticism.
In the meantime, Rabha Hasong residents have been reacting furiously to the central government's attempt to establish the union territory of Kamatapur.
The group said at a press conference held in Dudhnoi that by not granting Rabha Hasong's long-standing request for a Sixth Schedule, the Central government intended to grant Kamtapur state.
