GUWAHATI: In a significant crackdown, the Government Railway Police (GRP) successfully intercepted and seized illicit goods in a series of operations spanning multiple states. The coordinated efforts of the GRP and Railway Protection Force (RPF) resulted in the apprehension of several individuals involved in gold smuggling, drug trafficking, and illegal medical equipment trade.

The first incident unfolded on Saturday morning when GRP officials discovered and confiscated two gold biscuits, weighing approximately 328 grams, from the Avadh Assam Express. The alleged gold smuggler, identified as Altar Khan, was promptly arrested. Investigations revealed that Khan had illicitly transported the gold biscuits from the neighboring state of Manipur, highlighting the regional scope of such activities.

In a separate operation, a joint effort by the GRP and RPF led to the interception of six packets of heroin from the Tripura Sundari Express. Two individuals, identified as Sagar Bardhan and Ravi Roy, were apprehended in connection with the drug smuggling attempt. Initial reports suggested that the arrested individuals were part of a network supplying narcotics from Agartala.

Simultaneously, at the Kamakhya Railway Station, the GRP and RPF carried out an operation resulting in the confiscation of illegally smuggled medical equipment with an estimated net value exceeding Rs 12 lakh. Two individuals, Rahul Das and Niton Ali, were taken into custody for their involvement in smuggling the confiscated medical items. The operation underscores the diverse nature of illicit activities infiltrating railway networks.

These successful interventions demonstrate the effectiveness of collaborative efforts between different law enforcement agencies to curb cross-border criminal activities. The railway authorities have been vigilant in ensuring the safety and security of passengers and the transportation infrastructure. The arrests made in connection with gold smuggling, drug trafficking, and illegal medical equipment trade underscore the need for ongoing efforts to combat organized crime networks operating within the railway system.

As investigations continue, authorities are expected to delve deeper into the networks and connections of those involved in these illegal activities, reinforcing the commitment to maintaining the integrity of the railway transport system and safeguarding the well-being of the public.
