Assam: Rape Accused Injured In Police Firing In Kokrajhar

The police too opened fire at Afruddin which resulted in his injury and following this, he was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Guwahati: In continuation of its efforts to ensure no one can get away from the law, the police on Wednesday night took on an alleged rape accused and opened fire at him, when he tried to escape in Assam's Kokrajhar.

As per reports which have come to the fore, it was revealed that the incident took place when the police took him to the spot, where, he had concealed a mobile phone containing the details of the entire incident.

During the search of the mobile phone, the accused identified as Afruddin Islam reportedly tried to escape by snatching a service pistol from the officer-in-charge of the Salakati police outpost and also fired some rounds on them.

In retaliation, the police too opened fire at Afruddin which resulted in his injury, and following this, he was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Earlier, the police had nabbed three boys including the Afruddin for allegedly raping a minor at Salakati and interrogated them under section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

However, regarding the exchange of fire between police and Afruddin, there hasn't been an official word from the department.
