Assam: Rising Chain-Snatching Incidents in Guwahati; Bike-Borne Miscreants Strike Again

GUWAHATI: In a disconcerting turn of events, Guwahati city witnessed two audacious chain-snatching incidents in broad daylight on Monday. These incidents have once again spotlighted the growing menace of street crimes in the area, leaving residents and authorities deeply concerned.

The first incident unfolded in the Bharalumukh area, where a pair of bike-borne miscreants targeted an unsuspecting woman, snatching her chain before vanishing from the scene. The victim wasted no time and promptly reported the incident at the local police station, initiating an investigation into the matter.

Simultaneously, another shocking incident transpired during an early morning walk, victimizing a man identified as Randhir Raj Gupta. The entire incident was captured on a nearby CCTV camera, revealing two assailants on a motorcycle approaching the man before swiftly yanking away his gold chain and making their escape. The victim's prompt action led to the filing of a complaint at the Paltan Bazar police station.

While these incidents share similarities, it remains uncertain if the same culprits were responsible for both. Law enforcement agencies have launched thorough investigations into both cases, determined to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Chain-snatching has unfortunately become a distressingly common occurrence in and around Guwahati city, with criminals seemingly outsmarting the police at every turn. In a separate development, a chain-snatching suspect, identified as Arjun Saha, faced a dramatic police encounter on the outskirts of Guwahati. Arjun, accused of snatching a woman's chain, was apprehended by the police. However, during the course of investigation, he attempted to flee, forcing the police to resort to firearms. A gunshot wound to his left leg led to his capture, and the stolen chain was successfully recovered.

The incident underscores the dangers inherent in such criminal activities and the challenges faced by law enforcement in curbing them effectively.
