Assam: Road Accident Leads to Four Injuries as Wild Tuskar Crosses the Road

The accident was a result of the driver of the vehicle apparently seeing a wild elephant trying to cross the road.

BOKO: A rather unexpected incident took place in the state as a personal vehicle collided with a passenger vehicle in an attempt to escape a wild elephant. The incident took place in the Boko region of Assam when a speeding car collided head-on with an e-autorickshaw carrying four people who were seriously injured.

The accident was a result of the driver of the vehicle apparently seeing a wild elephant trying to cross the road. The Maruti Suzuki Swift vehicle bearing registration number ML 05 U 0550 travelling from Shillong towards Tura in Garo Hills, was involved in an incident that occurred at around 11:30 am in the Salbari-Boko area. According to eyewitness accounts, the driver changed course after spotting an elephant emerge from the nearby forests.

Three passengers and the driver were hurt in the abrupt switchover that resulted in a collision with an e-rickshaw travelling in the other direction. A passenger in an E-rickshaw who suffered severe injuries has been referred to the hospital at Guwahati Medical College. The Maruti Suzuki Swift vehicle driver fled the scene after the incident, but the female passenger, who was travelling from Shillong, received medical attention for her wounds and was permitted to leave with her family.

The vehicle is being held at the Boko Police Station while the accident is being investigated further.

In a separate incident, two persons were killed and another sustained serious injuries in a head-on collision between a Maruti Alto car and a truck on the National Highway 39 at Khakrajan under Borpathar Police Station in Karbi Anglong district. The Maruti Suzuki Alto bearing registration number NL 06C 2698 which was en route to Golaghat collided with a truck bearing registration number NL 01AE 4373, which was coming from the opposite direction. The mishap claimed the lives of the driver and a lady occupant in the Maruti Alto car. Another critically injured woman has been shifted to a hospital in Dimapur for treatment. The identity of the deceased and injured is yet to be ascertained.
