Assam: Rural Bars To Be Converted Into Wine Shops Within 45 Days

Family Pension for Unmarried Daughter was one of these decisions that were taken in the cabinet meeting.

Guwahati: The Assam government has decided to convert all rural bars into wine shops, said state minister for Skill Development Employment & Entrepreneurship and Tourism Jayanta Malla Baruah on Monday.

The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting on Monday chaired by Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma.

''We have seen that bars in the rural area are spoiling the values as these liquor shops sell and let people sit and drink. Hence, these rural bars will be converted into wine shops within 45 days by the respective District Commissioner (DCs),'' Jayanta said during a press conference after the cabinet meeting.

The Ministeralso added that a survey is being undertaken to identify areas across Assam where there are no wine shops, after the survey wine shop license for those areas will be provided.

Jayanta also asserted that the Assam Motor Vehicle Rules, 2003 have been amended to hand power to designated officers to auction off vehicles for various offences.

Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanata Biswa Sarma took to the micro-blogging site and shared several other important decisions that were taken during the cabinet meeting.

"In today's #AssamCabinet, we took several decisions pertaining to widening the scope of Master Plans, framing a logistics policy, auction of seized vehicles, relaxing promotion norms to fill up posts of BDO, easing GIS payment norms, etc," he tweeted.

Family Pension for Unmarried Daughter was one of these decisions that were taken in the cabinet meeting.

As per the decision, the Assam (Services) Pension Rules, 1969 to be amended to ease the hardship faced by the unmarried dependent daughter of a pensioner in availing family pension and to ensure apportionment by the unmarried daughter to all other eligible siblings like minor son, disabled child, another unmarried dependent child.

There will be an added provision that in case of complaint about the unmarried daughter not apportioning the pension to all the eligible beneficiaries, the Govt can apportion it equally among the eligible persons.
