Assam: Sale and exhibition of handicraft organized in Nalbari

On the occasion of the 575th birth anniversary of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva, a five-day voluntary programme of sales and exhibition of handicraft has been organized since Tuesday at the Marowa Sankardeva Field in Nalbari.

NALBARI: On the occasion of the 575th birth anniversary of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva, a five-day voluntary programme of sales and exhibition of handicraft has been organized since Tuesday at the Marowa Sankardeva Field in Nalbari.

Fifty-two self-help groups of the area, under the initiative of Morowa Lotus Progressive Centre, have joined in the programme. The exhibition was inaugurated by Utpal Bezbaruah, Nalbari District Manager of NABARD, and Mayur Bora, Branch Manager of Assam Gramin Vikash Bank. The outlets have brought various products worth a total of Rs 8,75,000.

Lotus Progressive Centre under LEDP and MEDP and under the auspices of NABARD has been imparting training among women in weaving, indigenous pickles, food items, biscuit making etc. through various self-help groups. Kamini Kanta Mishra, a senior journalist of the district, said that such exhibitions encourage the self-help groups as well as the weavers.
