DHUBRI:  Every year, saris, dhotis and children’s garments are distributed among the poor people of Dhubri town on the eve of Durga Puja by many organizations. Nrityangan, a socio-cultural organisation of Dhubri is going door to door and giving away saris among poor women for last few days.

Founder of Nrityangan, Dipankar Mazumder who by dint of his dedicated service during Covid period was named as “Vaccine Man” for his unflinching efforts to bring those who were left out during vaccination. They were mostly fishermen, daily wage earners, domestic helps etc.

When asked on distribution of saris, Mazumdar said that in this festive season when most of people would wear new garments and go on enjoying Puja, poorest of poor would have no reason to enjoy but to offer prayers only.

“I'm just trying to cheer up some elderly but desperately poor ladies from Nrityangan who are aware that Maa Durga is coming but don't know how to appreciate the pleasure of this festival,” Mazumdar added.
