Assam Science Society, Doomdooma branch organized lectures as part of Bigyan Chetana Jatra

As part of ‘Bigyan Chetana Jatra’ (Science Awareness Journey), Assam Science Society (ASS), Doomdooma branch organized three lectures at three local schools from Thursday to Saturday.

DOOMDOOMA: As part of ‘Bigyan Chetana Jatra’ (Science Awareness Journey), Assam Science Society (ASS), Doomdooma branch organized three lectures at three local schools from Thursday to Saturday.

The first lecture was organized at Doomdooma Jatiya Vidyalaya, Rupaisiding on Thursday with life member of the branch, Arjun Barua in the chair. The meeting was anchored by the secretary and life member, Dhiren Deka. Dr. Gaurangdhar Baruah, eminent physicist and former Professor of Dibrugarh University, delivered a speech on light and explained why the speed of light was insurmountable.

In the beginning, Principal Surabhi Moran introduced Dr. GD Barauh and felicitated him and all the members of ASS, Doomdooma Branch present. Another life member, Runumani Dutta Bhuyan, performed a song composed and tuned by her to the delight of all. The second day’s lecture was held at Brahmaputra Jatiya Vidyalaya, Barhapjan on Friday. The meeting presided over by life member Arjun Baruah and was anchored by secretary Dhiren Deka. Director of the school, Jintu Das read out the biodata of Dr G.D.Baruah and felicitated him with a seleng sador.

In his speech, Dr Baruah recalled his association with Sir CV Raman, India’s first Nobel Laureate in Science, at the beginning of his research career and shared his experiences about the simplicity, devotion to duty and devotion of great men. He demonstrated LASER beams to the students and gave an interesting lecture on the difference between white light and LASER beams. The third day’s lecture was held at the Hoonlal Higher Secondary School, Doomdooma on Saturday. The meeting which was chaired by Arjun Barua was anchored by secretary Dhiren Deka. In his brief speech, Dr GD Baruah made a reference to successful landing on moon by Chandrayan 3 and said that it was outcome of collective efforts of huge manpower involved in it. So he said that no human resource should go to waste.

Principal Alip Khan who was present on the occasion welcomed Dr Baruah, who was a former student of the school, and sought his blessings for the future growth of the school which was going to celebrate its platinum jubilee. The meeting and the programme ‘Science Awareness Journey’ came to an end with offering of vote of thanks by secretary Dhiren Deka and singing of O mur apunar desh.
