GUWAHATI: After claims of widespread cheating surfaced last week, Assam's Board of Secondary Education (SEBA) ordered re-examinations for 760 students from the centre at JR Higher Secondary School, Ganirgram, Cachar.
The distribution of cheating materials to the exam takers within the institution was shown in various videos that went viral on social media on Friday.
A section of candidates from centre no. B23-0138, J R Higher Secondary School, Ganirgram of Cachar district, were alleged to have used unfair methods while taking the English subject exam on March 3, according to a SEBA order released on Monday.
"These malpractices used in the test centre jeopardised the integrity of the examination; as a result, all 760 students from that centre must reappear for the English subject in the Compartmental Examination, 2023, which will be held in due course."
The order ruled that the answers submitted by pupils at J.R. Higher Secondary School in Ganirgram for the English class on March 3, 2023, would not be evaluated.
Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam, took notice of the incident and ordered the state education board to take action against the testing sites where cases of paper leakage are occurring.
After examining the viral recordings, Cachar Police had detained five people in this regard.
In the meantime, Cachar district residents claim that the mathematics exam question paper was leaked on the second day of the test.
The incident took place in a Daloogram centre.
However, sources noted that it was an issue of cheating and not a "leak," as the paper was disseminated after the start of the examination.
As soon as the report was out, Cachar DC Rohan Kumar Jha and Cachar SP Numal Mahatta sped off to the testing location.
