Guwahati: With the COVID-19 continuing to wreak havoc across India and the number of cases skyrocketing to unprecedented highs, Assam's Board of Secondary Education (SEBA) has decided to trim the syllabus of the High School Leaving Certificate (or 10th) exams to be conducted in 2021 by 30%.

All the schools under the state board shall be given the new syllabus for the new academic year in the PDF format. In addition to this, the SEBA has also reduced the syllabus of the 9th standard students by 30%.

This move has been taken to reduce the burden for students who have already spent much of their academic year cooped up indoors as the coronavirus has come knocking on every doorstep.

Confirming this development, R. C. Jain, the Chairman of the SEBA informed that almost 30 percent syllabus of all the subjects will be reduced and the board shall send the new curriculum to the schools tomorrow. The new syllabus will also be made available on the official website of the SEBA board.

This move follows the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) reducing 30 percent of the syllabus for higher secondary second-year students.

Meanwhile, the Assam Government's resolve to reopen its educational institutions has run into several roadblocks, as the rising cases of the virus have compelled the government to keep the schools shut till September 30th.

Answering the million-dollar question on the reopening of schools and colleges across the nation, the MHA in its notification dated August 29 wrote, "After extensive consultation with States and UTs, it has been decided that schools, colleges, educational and coaching institutions will continue to remain closed for students and regular class activity up to 30th September 2020. Online/distance learning shall continue to be permitted and shall be encouraged."
