LAKHIMPUR: Retired District Employment Officer Lakhi Bilash Saikia passed away on Thursday night due to old age ailments. He was the permanent resident of Maidamia of North Lakhimpur town. He was 84.
Lakhi Bilash Saikia and his son Shyam Sundar Saikia donated a piece of land to Lakhimpur Jila Xahitya Xabha (LJXX) for the construction of its office. He retired from service in 2004 and then involved himself in social services. LJXX expressed profound grief at his demise and extended sympathy to the bereaved family. On Friday, his body was taken to LJXX office, wherein the dignitaries of the literary body paid him last homage. The Axam Xahitya Xabha flag was kept at half mast in the LJXX office as a mark of honour to him. Saikia is survived by two sons and a daughter along with a host of relatives.
