Assam: Shanti Gogoi’s 89th birth anniversary observed in Dibrugarh

On the occasion of the 89th birth anniversary of Shanti Gogoi, former Chief Justice of India (CJI), Ranjan Gogoi on Wednesday distributed food items to the students of Gabrupathar LP School in Dibrugarh.

DIBRUGARH: On the occasion of the 89th birth anniversary of Shanti Gogoi, former Chief Justice of India (CJI), Ranjan Gogoi on Wednesday distributed food items to the students of Gabrupathar LP School in Dibrugarh.

Ranjan Gogoi, who is also the member of Rajya Sabha, along with his wife Rupanjali Gogoi celebrated Shanti Gogoi’s 89th birth anniversary with the school children.Ranjan Gogoi interacted with the students and the school and encouraged them to become good human beings.

On the other hand, a public meeting was held at a hotel in Dibrugarh. The meeting was attended by Ranjan Gogoi. Speaking on the occasion, Air Marshal (retd) Anjan Kumari Gogoi complimented the efforts of the Socio Educational Welfare Association (SEWA) and emphasized the need to identify the organization’s basic principles in order to be better able to confront society’s current challenges.The meeting was presided over by former principal of DHS Kanoi College,Dr Raji Konwar.

Air Marshal (retd) Anjan Kr Gogoi, on behalf of family members, presented scholarships to six meritoriousstudents of Dibrugarh Government Girls’ Higher Secondary School. The recipient of the scholarship were Barnali Konwar, Ankita Saikia and Rimjim Das of Class XI and Pinaki Sarmah, Kodombari Das, and Kasturi Das of Class IX.

Educationist Dr Gunalata Baruah was honoured for her extraordinary contributions to education and women’s empowerment. In the meeting, ceremonial yarn was handed over to the women weavers of Bebajia Village of Lahowal Block. SEWA is going to support yarn bank programme in Babajia village, and the women weavers’ group got yarn as part of SEWA’s sustainable livelihood programme.

Various SEWA beneficiaries took part in the programme. The event was attended by weavers from Sagali Kota Weavers Sangha, Rahmoria Cooperative Society, Babajia Weavers Sangha, natural tea growers from Tingkhong, and students from the skill training institution SEWA.

During the meeting, Sudakhina Das delivered a speech on Shanti Gogoi’s contribution to literacy and social welfare. Earlier, SEWA secretary Altaf Hussain offered a welcome address while vice-president of SEWA, Arfan Hussain, described SEWA’s journey.
