Guwahati: Renowned singer Sonu Nigam on Tuesday extended support to the people of Assam by contributing Rs 5 lakh to CM Relief Fund.
The flood situation in the Assam has been deteriorating over the past week and the state government has opened several relief camps and distribution centers in the affected areas.
The Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took the micro-blogging site Twitter and thanked Sonu Nigam for his contribution.
''Empathising with the flood-affected people of Assam, renowned singer Shri Sonu Nigam contributed ₹5 lakh to CM Relief Fund as assistance to our relief and rehabilitation measures. My deep gratitude to him for his concern and act of benevolence,'' Assam CM tweeted.
A few days back, Actor Arjun Kapoor and Director Rohit Shetty had too contributed Rs 5 Lakhs to the CM Relief Fund for the flood-affected people in the state.
Sarma also thanked them for their assistance at the time of crisis and for their concern and their act of generosity.
Assam is experiencing the worst flood which has affected millions of people in 32 districts. Several people have lost their lives while others forced to leave their places.
Both rail and road transportation have been blocked in the Barak valley area of the state and additional National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have been sent to the area.
In the past 24 hours, around 11 people have died due to floods and landslides due to incessant rank over the past week. In addition to this, nearly 42 lakh people in over 30 districts have been affected by it.
A total of 2,31,819 inmates are taking shelter in 810 relief camps in the State while seven persons are missing for the last 24 hours.
