Assam: Sivasagar Agriculture Department celebrates Kati Bihu

Kati Bihu, also known as Kongali Bihu, was celebrated in Demow and its surrounding areas on Wednesday.

DEMOW: Kati Bihu, also known as Kongali Bihu, was celebrated in Demow and its surrounding areas on Wednesday.

On the occasion of Kati Bihu, people and children lit earthen lamps in their houses, paddy fields, granaries and in front of the Tulsi plant and prayed for a good harvest.

On the other hand, the Sivasagar District Agriculture Department celebrated Kati Bihu in Athabari Chetia Gaon in Demow, Kareng Cultural Kendra, Liksan Gaon in Simaluguri and Belimukh Kahar Gaon Naam Ghar premises, Diksu, Amguri. The Sivasagar District Agriculture Department, in association with local farmers, celebrated Kati Bihu at Athabari Chetia Gaon in Demow.

The programme started with chorus songs. Asif Borah, District Agriculture Officer Sivasagar, gave the welcome speech and Amrit Saikia, District Agriculture Assistant Director, gave a valuable speech on the schemes of the Agriculture Department. In the programme, the farmers of Demow area, namely Basanta Chetia, Ratul Panika and Manoj Chetia were felicitated. Senior citizens of the area - Suren Chetia and Binanda Chetia were also felicitated.

At the end of the programme, Diha Naam was performed near the Tulsi plant and earthen lamps were lit in paddy fields. In the programme, Bihangi Bhagawati Das, Block Development Officer (BDO) of Demow Development Block Office, Sub-division Agriculture Officers Runima Mili, Surabhi Lahon, Ganesh Pahusungi, and other dignitaries were present.
