Assam: Sizeable Consignment of Contraband Seized, One Arrested

HATSINGIMARI: South Salmara Mankachar Police was able to seize a sizeable consignment of contraband while the same was in transportation.

Acting based on specific information, a police team undertook an operation in the South Salmara-Mankachar District of the state. They searched a passenger bus bearing registration number AS 18 C 7806 on its way to Mankachar. The bus was stopped and searched on the Sonapur Paglartol main road.

During the search, the police team found a sizeable quantity of Triprolidine Hydrochloride and Codeine Phosphate syrup as well as Tramadol Hydrochloride Acetaminophen Dicyclomine Hydrochloride capsules

A suspected peddler was also arrested from the vehicle with the contraband materials. His name was revealed as Musa Islam, belonging to the same district. Necessary action has been initiated against the suspected peddler.

Similar actions are being taken all across the state and recently the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Guwahati Zonal Unit busted an interstate drug peddling racket with the apprehension of two peddlers recently. According to sources, the NCB, Guwahati Zonal Unit, based on reliable input and continuous surveillance, busted an interstate network involved in the supply of methamphetamine from Moreh in Manipur to Cooch Behar in West Bengal. The peddlers are identified as BM Rahish and BM Hafiz Anish, both from Imphal West in Manipur.

The apprehension took place at Guwahati Railway Station on Tuesday morning while the peddlers were proceeding towards Cooch Behar (West Bengal) in a Rajdhani train. Upon conducting a search, it led to the seizure of 9.669 kg of methamphetamine from their possession. The seized items were packed in plastic, concealed in cloth and blankets, and kept hidden on hand baggage in the train. The team traced the source of the seized contraband to Moreh, Manipur, and the intended destination was Cooch Behar, West Bengal.
