LAKHIMPUR: The Assam State Committee of the SUCI (Communist) party had called for a state demand week from June 23 to June 29 to demand adequate relief and compensation to the flood-affected people of the State.
Responding to the call, a protest rally was taken out at North Lakhimpur town on Wednesday. It marched from DK Road Chariali via Bazarpati to Lakhimpur DC Office under the initiative of the party's Lakhimpur District Committee. Workers and supporters gathered ignoring heavy rainfall and thronged the streets with slogans demanding to provide adequate food items, drinking water to the flood-affected people, to provide medical care in flood-affected areas, provide proper compensation to the people who have lost their houses, property in the flood, to realize the plight of the flood-affected people.
Later, the party submitted two separate memoranda to the Chief Minister and to the Deputy Commissioner of Lakhimpur to draw attention to the unprecedented floods.
