Assam: Student body demands renaming Diphu Medical College and Hospital

The Karbi Students’ Association (KSA), led by Jemson Timung, has demanded renaming of Diphu Medical College and Hospital to Semsonsing Ingti Medical College & Hospital as a tribute to the founder of the Karbi Anglong autonomous district.

HOWRAGHAT: The Karbi Students’ Association (KSA), led by Jemson Timung, has demanded renaming of Diphu Medical College and Hospital to Semsonsing Ingti Medical College & Hospital as a tribute to the founder of the Karbi Anglong autonomous district.

In this respect, the Karbi Students’ Association has submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, through the District Commissioner of Karbi Anglong, on Tuesday. The memorandum was signed by general secretary Ramsing Tokbi, vice president Moniram Teron, and publicity secretary Kangthim Engti

The other demands include introduction of new courses like BDS degree, BHMS degree, and medical diploma courses like Postgraduate Diploma in TB & Chest etc. infrastructure development, particularly protection of the entire institution from chronic flooding during the monsoon season. The student body has demanded that the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council be assigned power in the administration of the medical college, mainly in appointing staff up to grade-III.
