Assam: Students of Bilasipara College of Dhubri district harvest paddy

Harvesting of paddy was done by the students (Department of Political Science) of Bilasipara College of Dhubri district on Thursday with a view to help the farmers and have an experience of harvesting.

DHUBRI : Harvesting of paddy was done by the students (Department of Political Science) of Bilasipara College of Dhubri district on Thursday with a view to help the farmers and have an experience of harvesting. 46 students of Bilasipara College along with several professors of Political Science and Assamese departments came forward to help the farmers in Udmari village located at the outskirts of the town and visited the field of Biswajit Das. They harvested nearly 5 bighas of ripened paddy from dawn to dusk.

The sight of the students and professors harvesting paddy, shining like gold with a local song and dance was an eye-catching view, a villager of Udmari said.

On this occasion, HOD of Political Science Department of Bilasipara College, Prof. Sunil Kumar Sarma, Prof. Namrata Sen, Prof. Kulen Das, HOD of Assamese Department, Prof. Ahmed Ghulam Sarowar, Pro. Mintu Bora and 43 students took part in this innovative activities.

Talking to The Sentinel, Professor Sunil Kumar Sarma stated that their goal was to give students in this generation a taste of agriculture by showing them how much labour the farmers put in to grow the paddy. “We attempted to instill in the pupils a respect for farmers who are our annadata,” Sarma added.
