GUWAHATI: In a resolute effort to combat corruption, the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption has achieved a significant breakthrough in Assam's Chirang district. The focus of this operation was Sub-Inspector Chintu Das, stationed at Dhaligaon Town Outpost under Kajalgaon Police Station, whose arrest sends a strong message against malpractices within the law enforcement system.
Chintu Das came under the scanner after a complaint surfaced, accusing him of demanding a hefty bribe of Rs. 1,50,000 for the release of the complainant's vehicles. Unwilling to yield to corruption, the complainant took a principled stand and sought legal intervention from the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption, triggering a swift and thorough investigation.
Taking immediate action, a vigilant team from the Directorate strategically set a trap on Tuesday, January 9, at Dhaligaon Town Outpost. This operation culminated in the prompt apprehension of Chintu Das, as he accepted Rs. 10,000 as part of the illicitly demanded bribe. The tainted money was meticulously recovered and seized on the spot, ensuring a concrete case against the accused.
Crucially, the entire incident unfolded under the watchful eyes of unbiased observers, adding credibility to the operation. This transparency is pivotal in maintaining public trust and confidence in the efforts to root out corruption from the law enforcement machinery.
A case has been formally registered at the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Police Station under Section 7(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, as amended in 2018. This legal recourse ensures that the accused Sub-Inspector, Chintu Das, faces the consequences of his actions. Currently in custody, Chintu Das awaits further legal proceedings as the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption continues its commitment to upholding the rule of law.
This successful crackdown on corruption not only highlights the diligence of the Directorate but also serves as a stern warning to those who engage in corrupt practices within the law enforcement system. The incident underscores the importance of public participation in exposing corruption and the significance of a proactive anti-corruption apparatus to maintain the integrity of governance.
