GUWAHATI: Karimganj police arrested a sub-inspector at south Assam's Patharkandi police station for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 on December 18.
The arrested police officer has been identified as Jitendra Singha. He was arrested after a video of the incident surfaced on social media.
GP Singh, Special DGP L&O, Director V&AC taking to his Twitter handle wrote, "Reference video on social media - After initial enquiry Sub Inspector Jitendra Singha of Patharkandi Police station has been arrested by @karimganjpolice today for accepting a bribe. A criminal Case has been registered."
Notably in the video, Singha can be seen accepting a bribe from a person at the Patharkandi police station.
Earlier, the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption and Kokrajhar District Police laid a trap and caught red-handed Veterinary Deputy Director Dr Arup Jyoti Bhuyan in the Dispur area while accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a complainant.
The sleuths recovered the bribe amount from Dr Bhuyan in the presence of independent witnesses. Kokrajhar SP had received the complaint that the complainant owning a dairy farm wanted to bring three milch cows to his farm from Alipurduar.
He approached Dr Bhuyan for the necessary transit permit for the purpose.
