Assam: Symposium on uniformity in Nepali writing held in Jamugurihat

JAMUGURIHAT: A day-long symposium on ‘Uniformity in Nepali language’ convened by Sahitya Akademy, New Delhi in collaboration with the department of Nepali, Biswanath College was held in three sessions at Ripunjoy Knowledge Hub of the college on Sunday. The inaugural session held with Dr Chinta Mani Sharma, principal of Biswanath College in the chair was attended by Durga Khatiwora, president of Assam Nepali Sahitya Sabha as a chief guest. Dr Jivan Rana, former member of the advisory committee of Sahitya Akademi offered a keynote address which was attended by Amrita Rana, member of the advisory committee of Sahitya Akademy and Biswajit Roy, officials of Sahitya Akademy as guests. Chandramani Upadhyaya, member of the advisory committee of Sahitya Akademy offered a vote of thanks while Hem Kumar Goutam, head of the department of Nepali conducted the proceedings of the inaugural session. The first session was held with Gyan Bahadur Chetry, eminent critic in the chair.
Dr Jamadagni Upadhyaya, eminent writer and Dr Jayanta Krishna Sarmah, Dean, Faculty of Arts, Gauhati University presented papers on uniformity in Nepali writing in Indian. Both the paper presenters cited issues and problems faced by the Indian Nepali writers while writing standard Nepali language. They also suggested solutions to cope up with the issues. The second session was held with Hem Kumar Goutam, HoD of the Nepali department in the chair.
Dr Khemraj Nepal, lexicographer and a historian and Dharmendra Upadhyaya, assistant professor of Nowboicha College had presented papers on the same topic. Anjan Baskota, recipient of Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar attended both the academic sessions as a rapporteur. The programme was attended by Madan Thapa, chief secretary of Assam Nepali Sahitya Sabha, Dr Bhakta Goutam, Dr Sanjib Upadhyaya, Purna Kumar Sarma, Hari Luitel, Jyotirekha Sarma, Arun Upadhyaya, Rajen Sarma, Purnima Devi among others. Bishnu Devi, assistant professor offered a vote of thanks.
