DOOMDOOMA: The Assam Tea Tribes Students' Association (ATTSA), Doomdooma branch, has demanded the closure of Hindustan Unilever Ltd., Personal Products Factory, Raidang, near here as two of the employees tested COVID-19 positive on Monday.

In a memorandum addressed to the Deputy Commissioner of Tinsukia and signed by its president Babul Panika and secretary i/c. Amit Sawashi on July 23, the Tea-Tribes Students' body stated that in HUL, PP Factory workers and employees from various parts of Assam were employed. So they apprehend that there is every possibility of community transmission from the factory premises. To stop this, they urged the DC to take adequate measures for closure of the factory so that the greater Doomdooma region could be saved from community transmission of this dreaded virus.

As per information, Quality Officer Arnab Konwar (41) and one employee, Bikash Chetri (35) had tested COVID-19 positive on Monday. They have been shifted to Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi (LGB) Civil Hospital, Tinsukia. As both of them came in contact with many others working in the factory, the employees have urged the company as well as the district administration to conduct swab tests of all the employees and officers. Although LGB Civil Hospital, Tinsukia collected swab samples from few of them, the results are awaited.
