Assam: Team of MLAs Visit South Salmara Mankachar District

HATSINGIMARI: A team consisting of six elected members of the Assam Legislative Assembly visited the South Salmara Mankachar district to take stock of the work done in various developmental projects in the district. The members of the legislative assembly visited several departments in the district headquarters in Hatsingimari and interacted with the officials.

The team of MLAs visiting Hatsingimari included Prasanta Phookan, Abdul Rashid Mandal, Aminul Islam (Dhing), Rupak Sharma, Diganta Barman and Aminul Islam (Mankachar).

It can be noted that the main road of the district is in very bad shape and the MLAs took stock of the conditions. Replying to questions regarding the same, MLA Prashanta Phookan mentioned he would be discussing this problem with the concerned minister and ensured that the important road from Agia to Mankachar would be repaired soon.

In a separate development in the district, suspected cattle smugglers met a tragic end when personnel from the Border Security Force (BSF) opened fire along the India-Bangladesh border in South Salmara-Mankachar district, Assam. The incident unfolded on Thursday evening, September 21, at approximately 7 PM, sending shockwaves through the local community. The deceased individual has been identified as Mintu Sheikh, a 27-year-old resident of Kanaimara village, nestled within the South Salmara-Mankachar district of Assam. Mintu Sheikh's untimely demise has raised questions about the circumstances leading up to the fatal encounter.

According to reports, the BSF personnel were alerted to suspicious activity in the area as they patrolled the sensitive India-Bangladesh international border. Their attention was drawn to an individual attempting to smuggle cattle across the border by navigating a barbed wire fence. This prompted the BSF personnel to take immediate action, resulting in the fateful confrontation. The situation escalated rapidly, and the BSF personnel resorted to opening fire on Mintu Sheikh. The details surrounding the incident remain under investigation, with authorities working to uncover the exact sequence of events that transpired on that fateful evening.
