Assam: Three Killed, 94 Villages In Six Districts Affected Due To Flash Floods

Due to the landslide, the Railway line at Jatinga - Harangajao and Mahur-Phaiding has been blocked, while the Maibang tunnel at Geremlambra village road is likely to be blocked due to the landslide.

Guwahati: As many as three people lost their lives, while 24,681 people in 94 villages in six districts were affected due to incessant rainfall accompanied by flash floods in Assam.

According to Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), Cachar, Dhemaji, Hojai, Karbi Anglong West, Nagaon and Kamrup (Metro) have been affected due to floods and three people including a woman died in landslide incidents in the Haflong area in the Dima Hasao district on Saturday.

In Dima Hasao district, there have also been reports of landslides in areas such as Haflong - New Kunjung, Fiangpui, Moulhoi, Namzeurang, South Bagetar, Mahadev Tilla, Kalibari, North Bagetar, Zion, Lodi Pangmoul villages. Approximately up to 80 houses are severely affected.

Due to the landslide, the Railway line at Jatinga - Harangajao and Mahur-Phaiding has been blocked, while the Maibang tunnel at Geremlambra village road is likely to be blocked due to the landslide. Village road adjacent to Mahur Petrol Depot can only be used by heavy vehicles.

Since the water levels are continuously rising in the Borkhola area of Cachar district, the district administration immediately approached Assam Rifles and together they managed to rescue people stuck in the floods to relief camps.

Meanwhile, the Centre has released Rs 125 crore from its Flood Control Fund for the current fiscal for Assam on Friday.

Assam Water Resources minister Pijush Hazarika called on Union Minister of Jal Shakti Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in Delhi on Friday and thanked him for the assistance.
