HAMREN: Even after several arrests across the state in order to stop the illegal sale of cattle, the menace is far from being over as three more vehicles were caught transporting cattle illegally.

This incident was reported from the West Karbi Anglong District of the state. A total of three vehicles transporting several cattle were caught by the police at a checkpoint. It was mentioned that the cattle were being transported from somewhere in the Hojai District of the state to the state of Meghalaya.

The cattle-loaded vehicles were seized at Doyangmukh in the Kheroni locality of the West Karbi Anglong district. The registration numbers of the vehicles were AS 01 MC 9937, AS 02 BC 6350 and AS 02 CC 5519. A total of 18 cattle heads were rescued from these three pickup trucks during the operation.

A case has been registered regarding the incident.

Previously, an abandoned truck with several cattle onboard was recovered by the state police. The incident took place on the night of Friday when local people found a truck mysteriously parked on the roadside in Jamugurihad of Sonitpur district of Assam. They informed the local police regarding the incident, in suspicion of a smuggling attempt. The vehicle had a registration number of AS 28 AC 0450.

Upon arrival, the police found that a total of 18 cattle heads were inside the truck and the owner of the vehicle was Amir Hussain. They also found that the vehicle did not have anyone else in it. The police suspected that the cattle were on their way to be sold in one of the neighbouring states, but they received information regarding the presence of the police parties. So the cattle smugglers abandoned their vehicle and fled by themselves.

Meanwhile, the police informed that they had started investigating the matter and that they were trying to track down the owner of the vehicle as well as other people involved in the incident.
