GUWAHATI: In a bid to boost the tourism in Assam, the state government has converted the DC Bungalow in Guwahati in to Brahmaputra River Heritage Centrewhich would be soon opened for the public.
The government has spent Rs 9 crore for the renovation of the century old building and has been upgraded as one of the most beautiful tourist sites in the city.
Earlier, Ashok Singhal, Minister for the Department of Housing & Urban Affairs and Irrigation of Assam has visited the DC Bungalow.
"Took stock of the ongoing progress work in the 'Bahniman Brahmaputra River Heritage Centre' at Old DC residence. Discussed with the @CityGuwahati team about the heritage bungalow & also reviewed the new technologies to be used to make our Guwahati city smart", he wrote in twitter.

will soon bear the heritage of the city and house indigenous handloom products.
During the British ear the bungalow was set up in Guwahati which has witnessed many historic event and later after the post-Independence the bungalow was declared the official residence of the DC.
The government decided to restore the bungalow in 2012 which had gone into dereliction and to preserve it by transforming it into a heritage centre.
The entire stretch of the river has been divided into 11 zones of which the zone between Nilachal Hills and Raj Bhawan is being prioritized because of its historical, social and economic importance.
