Assam to have Asom Ratna, Asom Bibhushan Awards, Decision Among Key Cabinet Approvals

Cabinet agreed to establish the Asom Ratna Award, which would be given to one individual each year who has made a significant contribution to society.

 The Assam Cabinet under the chairmanship of CM Shri Himanta Biswa Sarma took several significant decisions today. 

1. Cabinet agreed to establish the Asom Ratna Award, which would be given to one individual each year who has made a significant contribution to society.

    The Cabinet also established the Asom Bibhushan Award, which will be given to three people each year, the Assam Bhushan Award to five people, and the Asom Shree Award to ten people.

    The awards will be worth Rs 5 lakh, Rs 3 lakh, Rs 2 lakh, and Rs 1 lakh, with additional privileges like free medical care for serious illnesses, free accommodation in Assam Bhawans, free travel in ASTC buses, and so on.

2.  A Literary Pension will be given in honour of litterateur Homen Borgohain on his birthday, December 7, beginning this year. 

     A Sports Pension to be conferred in the name of Arjun Bhogeswar Barua on his birthday, September 3.

     Every year on January 17th, the Artiste Award will be presented.

     The winners will be revealed seven days before the award event.

3.  Cabinet authorized distribution of extra land measuring 35 bighas 2 Katha 2 Lecha to the management committee for the seamless implementation of the Batadrava Than Cultural and Tourism Project. Every month, Cultural Minister Bimal Bora will visit and assess the project's progress.

4.  Cabinet authorised a substantial administrative change that simplifies flood damage assessment and infrastructure rehabilitation. DCs are authorised to take the required steps in this regard between April 1 and October 31.

5.  The Cabinet proposed that the current Assam Legislative Assembly's first budget session will be beginning on July 12. 

6.  Photographs of the President, Prime Minister, and Assam's first Chief Minister, Gopinath Bordoloi, will be exhibited in all government offices.

7. A committee has been created under the supervision of MLA Padma Hazarika to use 77 thousand bighas of government land liberated from encroachers at Gorukhuti, Sipajhar in Darrang for agricultural purposes. Other members of the committee would include MP Dilip Saikia, MLAs Mrinal Saikia and Dr Paramananda Rajbangshi, while Secretary and Director Agriculture Vinod Seshan will serve as Member Secretary. 

8. In order to avoid overloading by coal trucks moving through Assam, the Cabinet agreed to weigh vehicles at the inter-state border crossings at Digharkhal and Srirampur. This practice will be carried out on a pilot basis until March 31. The entire procedure will be monitored by the Chief Minister, Finance Minister, and Transport Minister.
