Assam to Host ‘Khel Moharon’, 27,000 Villages To Participate from October

The Assam Govt will host "Khel Moharon," an amalgamation of the state's 27,000 villages. The participants will compete in five disciplines over the course of a three-month competition starting in October.

GUWAHATI: Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Sunday that the state government would hold a massive athletic event in every village to discover and develop sporting talent. He also reaffirmed the government's support for all athletes who are devoted to their particular sports.

Sarma had just handed out employment letters for government jobs to athletes who had won medals at the 36th National Games in Gujarat.

In a program on Sunday, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that, “Inspired by Hon PM Shri @narendramodi ji,we'll be organizing the Khel Maharan from October this year

It'll be a 4 tier competition where participants from 27000 villages will participate in 5 games and then proceed to constituency, district and state level.”

It will aid in identifying and honing the sporting potential of the youngsters in the rural and will be modelled after Gujarat's "Khel Mahakumbh," he added.

Sarma claimed that because of the supportive environment at home, state players were now shining in the international arena.

Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam, said that the state will invest $1 billion over the next five years to build top-notch sporting facilities in each district.

CM Sarma stated, "We would spend Rs 1,000 crore over the next years to build top-notch athletic facilities in every district of the state.

During a ceremony conducted at Janata Bhawan in Guwahati on Sunday, the chief minister presented appointment letters to medal winners of the 36th National Games and honoured an expedition team to Mount Kanchenjunga.

On the other hand , the Assam cabinet decided on Friday to implement the Olympic Values Education Programme (OVEP) in 250 public and private schools in and around Guwahati. This programme is meant to address issues with sedentary lifestyles, poor concentration, and teen dropout rates.

Friday night, State Cabinet Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah announced that the Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma-led state cabinet had approved the signing of an MoU with the International Olympic Committee and the Abhinav Bindra Foundation Trust to carry out the programme.
