LAKHIMPUR: A man was run over by a train in the Lakhimpur district of the state on Monda. The incident led to the death of the unidentified person.

According to reports, the person was found to have his earphones plugged, and lack of awareness is being speculated to be a possible reason for the incident. Bystanders mentioned that the train was moving at a high speed and the person failed to notice the same while crossing the railway tracks.

The accident took place near the Uttar Khatani railway station in Dhalpur of Lakhimpur district.

The local police were informed about the incident and steps were being taken to identify the deceased. Meanwhile, it was told that a bible was found next to the dead body.

More details are awaited regarding this incident.

This incident took place a day after the RPF had taken steps to educate people about the risks of such incidents. In order to spread awareness about road safety, the Railway Protection Force organised an awareness drive in Lumding of Assam on Sunday. They organised a street drama on the occasion.

The act presented on the street aimed to make people of the locality aware of the possible risks to people trying to cross level crossings even when the gates are closed ahead of approaching trains. The event was organised at the Harulongpher level crossing in Lumding.

Through this drama, they aimed to showcase the problems from such activities and how they put people at risk, including their own as well as that of others. Apart from showcasing what could happen in such a situation, the authorities also pointed out that people ignoring the warnings and crossing the level crossing by going under the gates can be booked under the Railways Act and given due punishment.
