Assam: Tributes Paid to Martyr Kanaklata Barua in Lakhimpur

Several organisations including AIDSO, AIDYO and AIMSS paid rich tributes to martyr Kanaklata Barua, who made the supreme sacrifice against the British during the Freedom Movement.

LAKHIMPUR: The Lakhimpur district units of All India Democratic Students’ Organization (AIDSO) All India Democratic Youths’ Organization (AIDYO) and All India Mahila Sanskritik Sangathan (AIMSS) paid rich tribute to martyr Kanaklata Barua, who made supreme sacrifice against the British on September 20, 1942 during the Freedom Movement.

To commemorate the martyr, the members of the organizations observed Kanaklata “Atma-Balidan Divas” and organized a Shradhanjali programme in North Lakhimpur town near Lakhimpur District Commissioner’s Office. There the dignitaries of the organizations and hundreds of students paid floral tribute at the portrait of Kanaklata Barua. Then Kanaklata Memorial Badges were distributed among the public in the town throughout the day by the members of the organizations. It was followed by a cultural event with the showcase of tableau with patriotic fervour that commenced from 4:00 pm. Moreover, street meetings with the presentation of patriotic songs, to disseminate the ideology of the martyr, were organized by the organizations at DK Road Chariali and Bazaar Patti of the town.
