Assam: Tribute paid to poet Prasanta Biswa Sarma

MANGALDAI: Family members, relatives and well-wishers on Wednesday paid rich tribute to Mining Engineer, poet and writer Prasanta Biswa Sarma on his 53rd birth anniversary at a well-attended function at the Lakshmi Ram Barua Sadan at the Axam Xahitya Xabha (AXX)complex in Guwahati organized by Jatiya Adarsha Sikhsa Sansad.

Er.Prasanta Biswa Sarma - Assistant General Manager, Warehouse of Steel Authority of India (SAIL) and younger brother of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma - had breathed his last at the very young age of 46 years on August 11, 2017 at Bhillai in Chhattisgarh. His birth anniversary has been celebrated as the ‘Kavitar Din’ (Day of Poems) since 2021.

Mrinalini Devi, mother of Er Prasanta Biswa Sarma, marked the beginning of the function by lighting a lamp while president of AXX, Dr Surya Kanta Hazarika inaugurated the function and spoke on the writing skills of Prasanta Biswa Sarma.

In the function presided over by eminent journalist Dhirendra Nath Chakraborty, adviser of the Education Department, Assam, Dr Nani Gopal Mahanta and Tirthankar Das Kalita of RSS also recalled the unexplored literary talent and skills of Er Prasanta Biswa Sarma with reference to his writings and poems. Parag Dev Choudhury and Deputy Inspector General of Police, Partha Sarathi Mahanta read out a poem at the function enthralled the august audience.

Mrinalini Devi, Diganta Biswa Sarma, Riniki Bhuyan Sarma and Bijoya Sarma, wife of Prasanta Biswa Sarma, also offered their tribute in memory of Er Prasanta Biswa Sarma.

Earlier, secretary of Jatiya Adarsha Sikhsa Sansad, Rana Basishtha in his welcome speech offered a brief note on the life and works of Er Prasanta Biswa Sarma.
