Assam: Truck Carrying Tea Leaves Hit E-Rickshaw, 7 People Face Serious Injuries

MARIANI: A severe accident that took place in the Mariani region of the state leading to the injury of several people.

A severe accident took place in the Mariani region on the day of Biswakarma Puja on Monday. A total number of seven people received severe injuries in this accident. Three children were also among those injured in the incident. The victims were shifted to the Titabor Civil Hospital for medical treatment.

According to local sources, the e-rickshaw with several people onboard was hit by a speeding truck carrying fresh tea leaves. As a result of the accident, the e-rickshaw with the people onboard was thrown off the road into a ditch next to it, injuring the passengers on it. It was informed that the people were on their way to take part in a religious event at Dhapatbari. The injured people were immediately shifted to the Titabor First Response Unit (FRU).

The truck which had caused the accident managed to flee from the location of the accident. Meanwhile, the victims were identified as Mithun Mahato, Rita Mahato, Kalsi Mahato, Mamta Mahato, Rakhi Mahato (7 years old), Kazal (6 years old), Rakesh Mahato (11 years old).

The local people staged a protest after the incident took place and the local police had to come to the location to control the situation.

A few days back, a four-wheeler met with an accident in Geetanagar of Guwahati. The vehicle was driven by a teenager, which resulted in the mishap. According to sources, the accident took place at a construction site where excavations were being carried out for the installation of water pipes. The area, which had been barricaded with barriers as a precaution, turned into turmoil when the car fell into the excavated pit.

Local authorities soon reached the site. One of the officials said, "The vehicle was driven by a teenager who could not control the vehicle, but luckily there were no injuries." The situation was taken care of, and the vehicle was returned to the owner. No cases have been registered.
