GUWAHATI: In a shocking development amid the ongoing war against drug trafficking, two Assam Police constables found themselves on the wrong side of the law. On a fateful Wednesday, Hailakandi Police arrested the two constables, Younis Ali and Narayan Das, following allegations of their involvement in drug peddling. The complaint leading to their arrest was filed by Assam Rifles, a paramilitary force operating in the region.

The incident sent shockwaves through the local law enforcement community as the very individuals entrusted with upholding the law were accused of being complicit in drug-related activities. The arrest highlighted the urgency of tackling the drug menace, even within the ranks of the police force.

Just a few days before this arrest, Assam was rocked by another major drug-related incident. On October 3rd, authorities in Sipajhar, Assam, seized a significant quantity of narcotics concealed within an Alto vehicle. During a meticulously executed police operation, 18 containers filled with brown sugar were discovered cunningly hidden inside the vehicle's fuel tank.

The situation escalated as the owner of the vehicle attempted to evade capture upon realizing the presence of the police. This daring escape effort added an extra layer of intrigue to the unfolding drama.

The value of the seized narcotics was staggering, estimated to be around Rs 4 crore. This sizable haul illustrated the lucrative nature of the illegal drug trade, fueling concerns about the extent of the issue in the region.

The vehicle used in this smuggling attempt bore the registration number AS-01-JC-6604, offering a crucial clue in the ongoing investigation. Authorities are working diligently to trace the origin of the narcotics, the larger network involved, and the destination of these illegal substances.

These incidents serve as stark reminders of the challenges law enforcement faces in curbing the drug trade. While efforts are being made to eradicate this menace, the involvement of individuals within the police force underscores the need for comprehensive reforms and a collective commitment to combating drug-related crimes.
